Fencing guide
Dozens of fence types do a similar job; what separates them is the setting, the level of security needed and the budget. This short guide helps you pick the right system.
Around factories, warehouses, schools and housing estates the usual choice is panel fencing. Single-wire panels are the economical option; double-wire panels resist impact and bending far better. For a more flexible, lower-cost perimeter, galvanised wire mesh on concrete posts or tube posts will serve for years. In damp or salty air, PVC-coated wire mesh slows corrosion.
On fields, vineyards, orchards and animal shelters the deciding factors are metrage and cost. Poultry netting is enough to contain birds and small animals; for marking a boundary and deterring crossing, barbed wire is the cheapest answer. Where vehicles need access we build the field gate to your opening, finished at the same height as the fence.
At substations, fuel stations and critical facilities a fence alone is not enough. Concertina razor wire along the top makes climbing impractical, while flat-wrap razor wire frustrates cutting through. Anti-climb high-security fencing with finger-proof apertures is the top tier; where vehicle access is also controlled it is designed together with an automatic barrier.
Around artificial turf pitches and basketball courts, panel fencing is combined with netting at ball-stopping height. In villa and estate gardens that need privacy, artificial hedge fencing is fitted over the panel for the look of a green wall. On retaining walls and slopes, box gabions are both structural and decorative, and shade netting can be added for shade and wind.

Industrial product guide
For industrial items price is driven by size and weight, and the steel market moves daily. Below is a summary of how each product is chosen and how to calculate the quantity you need.
On the reinforcement side the two questions we hear most are price and weight. Rebar is sold by weight; the weight per metre depends on the diameter, so give us both the diameter and the total metrage for a tonnage calculation. For floor and slab concrete, laying welded steel mesh instead of tying bars one by one cuts labour: Q106 is about 1.66 kg/m², Q188 2.95 kg/m² and Q257 4.04 kg/m². Multiply the area by that figure and add 10-15% for laps.
Questions about steel profiles usually combine size and price per kilo; for box section the two decisive figures are the cross-section and the wall thickness, and the weight follows from those. They are used for fence posts, railings, gate frames and load-bearing work. Wire rod is not a finished product but the coiled raw material drawn down into wire — the starting point for nails, tying wire and mesh. Prices for both follow the steel market and are quoted daily.
Both are sold as sheets but they are made differently. Perforated sheet is punched from flat plate; the surface stays flat, both faces look the same, and it suits ventilation, cabinets, screening and railing infill. Expanded metal is slit and stretched open, so it covers more area for the same weight. To calculate weight we need the sheet size, the material thickness and the mesh opening — send those three and we will give you both the kilos and the price.
On the wire side the choice comes down to the coating. Galvanised wire lasts well outdoors thanks to its zinc coating; PVC-coated galvanised wire adds a further layer of protection in damp or salty conditions. Annealed wire is softened by annealing so it bends easily and is used on site as tying wire — with no coating, it should not be left exposed for long. For a ready-made grid, spot-welded wire comes as welded panels. These items are sold by weight.
Construction nails are a consumable for formwork and structural work; specify length and gauge together, sales are by weight and the unit price falls at higher volumes. Shade netting is chosen by shade factor: the higher the percentage, the less light passes through — a high factor suits car parks and greenhouses, a lower one is enough where the netting is fixed to a fence for privacy. Clips are used to fasten it; just send the area and the factor you want.
