What Are Industrial Products?
The industrial products group covers the semi-finished items that form the raw material of perimeter systems and are also consumed directly in construction, fabrication, farming and workshop work. It runs on three lines: wire in coils and reels, cut or processed sheet, and structural load-bearing sections. These items are sold by kilogram, metre or piece and priced directly off the steel market.
AnkaraTel sells them from its Ostim, Ankara warehouse and ships across Türkiye. Site surveys are free of charge within Ankara; delivery is charged, Ankara included, and heavy items move by freight rather than parcel courier. Installation is not one of our standard services.
Which Product Suits Which Job? (Selection Guide)
Here the right choice comes from comparing three properties: material hardness, surface protection and how the product is sold. The table below separates the items most often confused.
| Product | Key Property | Sold By | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galvanized Wire | Zinc coated, corrosion resistant | Coil / kg | Chain link fence, tying, fabrication |
| PVC Coated Galvanized Wire | Two-layer protection, flexible | Coil / kg | Damp sites, gardens, livestock |
| Annealed Wire | Soft, bends easily | Coil / kg | Rebar tying, formwork |
| Wire Rod | Raw material before drawing | Coil / tonne | Wire drawing, fabrication |
| Construction Nails | Hardened shank | Kg / box | Formwork, timber work |
| Rebar | Ribbed, high yield strength | Length / tonne | Reinforced concrete |
| Steel Section | Structural load-bearing profile | Length / kg | Posts, framing, construction |
| Screen Mesh | Woven, precise aperture | Roll / m² | Screening, filtering, separation |
| Perforated Sheet | Punched flat sheet | Sheet / m² | Facades, guarding, ventilation |
| Expanded Metal | Slit and stretched sheet, no scrap | Sheet / m² | Platforms, railings, facades |
On the wire side the first split is hardness. Annealed Wire suits tying, formwork and hand bending thanks to its soft structure, but its low corrosion resistance rules it out of permanent outdoor work. For permanent outdoor use choose Galvanized Wire, and where there is moisture, manure or chemical contact, PVC Coated Galvanized Wire. For firms that draw wire and fabricate, the raw material is Wire Rod: not a finished product but the coil wire is drawn from.
On the structural side, Rebar is for reinforced concrete and its ribbed surface bonds with the concrete; it must never replace a section. For load-bearing frames, posts, gate frames and construction work, use Box Section. For formwork and joinery, Construction Nails are sold by the kilogram, with the length chosen to suit the timber being fixed.
Three items in the sheet and woven group are often mixed up. Screen Mesh is woven, and its precise aperture suits screening, filtering and separation. Perforated Sheet is punched from flat sheet; its even surface and clean hole pattern make it the choice for facade cladding, machine guarding panels and ventilation grilles. Expanded Metal is slit and stretched from sheet, so it wastes nothing, gives a wider surface for the same weight and serves in platforms, railing infills and facades.
Technical Selection Criteria
Three values matter with wire: wire diameter, tensile strength and zinc coating weight. Two galvanized wires of the same diameter can last very different lengths of time depending on the zinc per square metre; a thinly coated wire looks fine for a year, then pits with rust. With PVC coated wire, ask for the inner wire diameter and the coated outer diameter separately, because strength comes from the inner wire.
With sections, section size and wall thickness decide the outcome; two sections of the same outside dimensions carry completely different loads because of wall thickness, and prices follow. For sheet it is thickness, hole or mesh pattern and sheet size; for rebar, diameter, length and reinforcement grade; for nails, shank diameter and length. Stating these clearly on order prevents wrong products and needless freight cost.
Where Are They Used?
These go into construction sites, steel fabrication shops, wire and fence manufacturers, farms, mining and aggregate plants, recycling facilities, furniture and joinery shops, machine building and landscaping. They also appear constantly in perimeter projects: section is the raw material of a gate frame, galvanized wire of chain link fabric, annealed wire of the connections made on site. That is why panel fence and steel tube post often join the same shipment as a fence order.
How Much Material Do You Need?
The unit of calculation changes with the product, so get it right from the start. Wire and nails are worked out by kilogram; length products such as sections and rebar by metre or tonne; screen mesh, perforated sheet and expanded metal by square metre or sheet count.
With sheet the cutting plan is critical: order without laying the area out over the standard sheet size and material that is enough on paper falls short on site through cutting waste. The same applies to length products; when dividing total running metres by the standard length, allow for offcuts. Wire runs on weight, not length; tell us the metres you need and we convert to kilograms. Site surveys are free of charge within Ankara; for out-of-town projects we calculate from your list and sketch.
What Determines the Price?
In industrial products the steel market drives price, so quotations carry a defined validity period. Product-specific items sit on top: for wire, diameter, tensile strength and zinc coating weight; for sections, section size and wall thickness; for sheet, thickness, pattern and sheet size; for rebar, diameter and reinforcement grade. Unit cost falls as quantity rises, and a full load beats part-load shipping. All our prices include VAT; send your list and quantities and we quote item by item.
Ordering and Shipping
Once product, size and quantity reach us we prepare a VAT-inclusive quotation; after approval the shipment leaves our Ostim warehouse. Most of this group is heavy and bulky, so goods usually travel by freight lorry, though small volumes of wire and nails can go by parcel courier. Delivery is charged, and that applies to deliveries within Ankara as well; we never ship at no cost. Freight appears as a separate line on the quotation, based on tonnage, volume, length and distance. Because vehicle type can be a constraint with long products, we confirm before ordering that the address suits lorry access.
FAQ
Industrial Products — common questions
What is the difference between annealed wire and galvanized wire?
Annealed wire is soft, bends easily by hand and is used for rebar tying and formwork; its corrosion resistance is low, so it is not suitable for permanent outdoor applications. Galvanized wire lasts for years outdoors thanks to its zinc coating. Where there is contact with moisture, manure or chemicals, PVC coated galvanized wire should be preferred.
Are wire rod and galvanized wire the same thing?
No. Wire rod is the coiled raw material that wire is drawn from; it is not a finished product. Galvanized wire has already been drawn and zinc coated and is ready to use as it comes. Firms that draw wire and fabricate ask for wire rod, while end users ask for galvanized wire.
Can rebar be used instead of steel section?
It should not be. Rebar is for reinforced concrete and its ribbed surface is designed to bond with concrete. For load-bearing frames, posts, gate frames and construction work, use steel section, because its cross-section geometry is calculated for those loads.
What is the difference between perforated sheet and expanded metal?
Perforated sheet is punched from flat sheet; with its clean hole pattern and even surface it is used for facade cladding, machine guarding panels and ventilation grilles. Expanded metal is slit and stretched from sheet, so it wastes nothing and gives a wider surface for the same weight. It is the choice for platforms, railing infills and facade work.
What matters most when choosing a steel section?
Wall thickness is as decisive as the section size. Two sections with the same outside dimensions carry completely different loads because of a difference in wall thickness, and prices differ accordingly. When you order, state both the section size and the wall thickness clearly.
What units are these products sold in?
Wire and nails are sold by the kilogram, length products such as sections and rebar by the metre or tonne, and screen mesh and sheet products by the square metre or by sheet count. If you know your requirement in metres, just send it over and we will work out the kilogram equivalent. That way an error in the order quantity is avoided.
Why do prices keep changing?
The main driver of price in industrial products is the steel market, and that market can move even within the day. For that reason our quotations are issued with a defined validity period. All our prices include VAT, and the unit cost falls as the order quantity rises.
How are long products delivered?
Most of this group is heavy and bulky, so goods usually travel by freight or lorry; small volumes of wire and nails can also go by parcel courier. Because vehicle type can be a constraint with long products, we confirm together before the order that the delivery address suits lorry access. Delivery is charged, deliveries within Ankara included, and we never ship at no cost.
