Mamak Is Not One Kind of Place

Mamak is hard to sum up in a single sentence, because three very different uses sit side by side inside the district: dense housing, scrap and recycling yards, and small industrial workshops. As you move towards the eastern edge of the city the building fabric thins out and wide stretches of open land begin. There is no single fencing recipe for Mamak; the requirement changes as the street changes.

The way to choose the right product is to be clear about what the land is actually used for. What is expected of an empty investment plot is not what is expected of a recycling yard. The sections below take the uses we meet most often in the district one at a time.

That variety affects the quotation stage as well. Two addresses close to each other can end up with completely different answers; one is settled with a light boundary line, while the other needs a rigid run and a heavy gate. So the conversation has to be about how the parcel is used, not about the name of the district.

What It Costs to Put Off Fencing an Investment Plot

Buying land as an investment is common along the eastern side of Mamak, and most of those plots stand empty for years. An unfenced plot produces three problems over time: the boundary quietly becomes unclear, rubble and waste get tipped on it, and it ends up being used without permission. Sorting out any of the three afterwards is far more trouble than fencing the plot at the outset.

On an empty plot the aim is not to build a fortress but to make the boundary visible and beyond argument. That is why solutions with a low cost per metre, no maintenance and a long service life come to the front. Runs built with concrete posts are unaffected by moisture in earth ground, and the wire strained across them needs no further attention for years. If vehicles are going to enter the land, leaving a single field gate at one point stops the run being cut open at random places.

Fencing an empty plot also has a boundary side to it. A run that sits properly on the parcel line heads off later arguments; a run that spills onto the neighbouring parcel is a problem in its own right. If the corner points are uncertain, having them established before any fencing goes up is the right place to start.

How a Fence Sits on Sloping Ground

The ground in Mamak is largely sloping. Work that is straightforward on a flat site has to be thought through on a hillside. The most common mistake on a sloping run is either forcing the fence down to hug the ground or, the other way round, stepping it and leaving an opening along the bottom.

• Where the gradient is gentle the run is set to follow the ground, and the gap underneath is kept to a minimum.
• Where the gradient is steep a stepped layout is used, and the triangular opening left at each step has to be closed separately.
• On a hillside rainwater scours out the base of the posts; at these points the concrete has to be brought proud of the surface.
• On a run with a level difference, the gate is always positioned on a flat platform.
• On sloping land the real length of the run is greater than the length read off a plan; the running meters are increased to match.

On sloping land the position of the gate matters as much as the run itself. A gate set on a slope either drags on the ground or swings open and shut under its own weight. Moving it onto level ground is usually a matter of shifting it a few metres, and that small shift directly extends the life of the gate.

Blocking the View at Scrap and Recycling Yards

The scrap and recycling yards in the district create two separate requirements when it comes to fencing. The first is that the material building up inside should not be visible from outside; the second is that the run should stay standing when the piles lean against it.

Shade net is run along the line to block the view; but because a solid face increases wind load considerably, a run put up without tightening the post spacing will lie down in the first strong wind. This is the detail most often missed on yard perimeters. On the faces where the piles press, the post section is increased and braces are added; rigid systems such as panel fence answer that pressure better than wire systems do.

On these sites the run wears out faster than in any other use. Loader manoeuvres, dragged material and constant contact all work on the post bases and the lower section. Choosing something tougher for the bottom, and being able to replace a damaged bay on its own, cuts the workload noticeably over the years.

The Boundary Between Small Industry and Housing

In Mamak workshops and homes frequently share the same street. That closeness loads an extra job onto the boundary fence: separating an area that generates dust, noise and material traffic from the parcel next door, while also stopping people crossing.

Owners who want to add deterrence cheaply put barbed wire along the top of the run. On faces with pedestrian traffic that addition has to sit at a height where there is no risk of contact. On the elevations that look straight at housing, keeping away from sharp-pointed products is the sounder choice, both for relations with the neighbours and for liability.

Next to housing, the face people see counts as well. On the elevation facing the street and the windows, a run that is straight, painted and looked after makes the business's relationship with its surroundings easier. Using a more economical solution along the back of the same site is the simplest way of spending the budget where it earns its keep.

Work Out the Running Meters Yourself

Putting together rough running meters before you ask for a quotation helps you understand the price and cuts the risk of ordering short. When the items below are forgotten the site is left half finished and a second shipment becomes necessary.

Once this list is filled in with a single walk round the site, both the quotation and the shipment can be completed in one go.

Walking the site from one end to the other teaches you more than the figures written into the table. Where the ground turns hard, where water collects, which corner is cut off by a neighbour's wall: details like these only show themselves on foot. Those observations settle both the choice of product and the order in which the work is done.

Delivery to Mamak and How We Work

Material leaves our depot in Ostim; the 20 km to Mamak allows same-day dispatch on products held in stock. On deliveries to open land the critical question is whether the lorry can get onto the site at all; after rain an earth track may be impassable, so the unloading point has to be agreed beforehand. Delivery is always charged, including addresses within Ankara.

Site survey is free within Ankara. On sloping land with an uncertain boundary, an assessment made on the spot gives a far more accurate result than an estimate offered from a distance. Installation is not a standard service; our teams attend projects of approximately 1000 metres and above, and on smaller jobs installing the delivered material is down to you. Prices include VAT, which is worth bearing in mind when you compare quotations.

In thinly built-up areas the delivery time needs planning too; unloading at an address where nobody is there to receive the material means leaving it out in the open. The name and telephone number of the person taking delivery are agreed before dispatch.
