Three Forces That Wear Materials Down on the Tuz Gölü Shore

On the demanding sections, PVC coated chain link fence separates the steel beneath the coating from direct contact. On the upper runs, where contact is limited, a good quality galvanised chain link fence is enough. Rather than taking the whole line up to the most expensive solution, strengthening the section where the wear genuinely concentrates strikes a better balance.

The Post Base: The Weakest Point on the Line

On long runs the failure almost always starts in the same place: the point where the post meets the soil. That zone wets and dries in turn and salt accumulates there; the coating tires here more than anywhere else. The answer is built in two steps.

The first is pouring the footing correctly. Open the concrete hole at least three times the diameter of the post, and go to four times on corner and straining posts. Finish the top face of the concrete a few centimetres above ground level and fall it away from the post, so that rainwater does not gather at the base but runs off.

The second is choosing the post material to suit those conditions. Because the section in contact with the soil is what needs protecting, a concrete post is the solution that asks for the least maintenance on ground like this over the long run. If steel posts are to be used, it matters that the lower section never touches the soil directly and stays encased in concrete.

The same logic applies to the bottom row of mesh. The row nearest the ground both touches the soil and fills with grass, and when those two effects combine the wear accelerates. Holding the bottom row a few centimetres clear of the ground and keeping on top of weed clearance along the line is the simplest measure that extends life without changing a single material.

Straining and Bracing Layout on Fully Wind-Exposed Flat Land

On flat land with no relief and no trees, the wind loads the whole line at once. What decides the outcome here is not the individual posts but the way the run is tensioned as a whole.

  • Do not leave post spacing at 3 metres; bringing it down to 2.5 metres reduces movement noticeably.
  • Set a braced straining post every 30 metres; do not stretch that interval on exposed runs.
  • One brace is not enough at corners; brace in both directions.
  • Run tension wires at three levels, top, middle and bottom; a line strained at one level only will ripple in the wind.
  • When working out post length, add 60-70 centimetres of burial depth to the fence height.

For businesses fencing seasonally, or thinking of moving the line later, a steel tube post gives a more flexible installation; but if it is going onto open plain, the straining and bracing layout is not the place to compromise.

Fitting 150 Kilometres Into a Single Shipment

When you choose where the gate goes on a large holding, look at two things: which point gives the shortest route into the land, and whether there is enough flat ground there to manoeuvre. On a distant plot, a badly positioned gate means extra travel on every trip in and out.

Do not confuse the clear opening with the swing clearance the leaves need. 4 metres suits tractors and trailers, while 5-6 metres is a sensible range on main entrances used by combines and plant. For field and land entrances a field gate is the most practical answer; where the wind blows constantly, do not overlook leaving a tie-back point so the leaves are not thrown about when left open.

Gate posts are the hardest-worked elements on the line; they carry the weight of the leaf and the push of the wind together. Set them deeper than the intermediate posts, open a wider footing hole and brace them in both directions. Leaving a stop for the leaf to rest against when it is opened extends the life of the hinges as well.
