What Is a Pedestrian Gate?
A pedestrian gate is a single-leaf gate set into a perimeter line for people on foot. It is also called a personnel gate or a walk gate. Placed beside the main vehicle gate or at a convenient point on the line, it saves swinging the large leaf open and shut all day for staff and visitors.
We sell pedestrian gates in stock sizes from our Ostim base. The leaf is a welded box section frame with a panel fence mesh infill; posts and hinge set are supplied with it. All gates are electrostatic powder coated in RAL 6005 (moss green), the same shade as the most common panel fence on site, so the gate never looks like a bolted-on extra.
Pedestrian Gate Types
By infill, the choice is mesh or sheet. A mesh leaf is light, sheds wind load, works the hinges less and keeps the inside visible. A sheet-clad leaf blocks the view and suits warehouses and construction sites where the yard should not be seen from outside, but it is heavier, so posts and hinges must be sized for it.
By opening direction, gates are right or left hand. The hinge side decides which way the leaf rests against the wall or fence. Gates can also open inwards or outwards; anything on a fire escape route should open outwards.
By lock, you can have a padlock-lug slide bolt, a cylinder mortise lock, or a leaf prepared for card and turnstile systems. Construction sites usually take the padlocked bolt; corporate premises prefer a mortise lock or an electric lock keep.

Where Is a Pedestrian Gate Used?
A pedestrian gate is needed on almost every fenced site. Factory and workshop yards, storage areas, schools and dormitories, sports fields, housing estates and villa gardens, farmland, solar power plants, water reservoirs, base station and transformer compounds are the most common applications.
The logic is simple: vehicles use a sliding gate or a double swing gate, and people get a gate of their own. That improves security and spares the hinges and wheel sets of the large leaf. Where there is a security post, the pedestrian gate goes within sight of the cabin.
Choosing the Size and What to Watch For
The first question when sizing is what has to pass through. For staff only, a 100x200 cm leaf is enough. If a hand pallet truck, wheelbarrow, stretcher, garden machine or material crate must go through, take 120x200 cm; those 20 centimetres matter in practice.
The second is the opening direction and the space in front of it. The leaf sweeps an arc as wide as itself, so keep walls, handrails, waste containers, lighting columns and parked vehicles off that side. Where a gate opens onto a staircase, always allow for the landing.
The third is the finished floor level and the threshold gap. A few centimetres of clearance under the leaf stops it catching on snow, gravel and mud. Too much clearance weakens security, so set the size from the finished ground level.
The fourth is matching the line height. The gate should be close to the height of the fence it joins. Against a 250 cm fence, a 200 cm gate is the weakest point of the line; the answer is an extra panel above the gate or concertina razor wire along the top. Our free site survey within Ankara checks this on the spot.
What Determines the Price of a Pedestrian Gate?
The first item is size: a 120x200 cm leaf carries more profile and more infill than a 100x200 cm one. The second is profile section and wall thickness. Two gates of the same size price differently by frame thickness and behave very differently on site; a thin-profile leaf sags at the corner over time.
The third is infill type: sheet cladding costs more in material and labour than mesh. The fourth is hardware level; hinge type, lock choice and extras such as a door closer or an electric lock keep all feed into the total. The fifth is quantity, since unit cost falls when a project takes several gates.
Last comes the delivery point. Delivery is charged and freight is not included in the price, deliveries within Ankara included. Installation is not one of our standard services; our teams attend site only on perimeter projects of approximately 1,000 metres and above. All our prices include VAT.
How Is It Installed?
Fitting a pedestrian gate follows swing gate logic: its life depends on sound hinges and plumb posts. The steps are as follows:
- Marking the post positions: add the hinge and lock allowance to the leaf width to set the post centres. Measure off the leaf itself; never mark by eye.
- Footings and concrete: dig deep enough for each post and pour with the post held plumb. Do not hang the leaf before the concrete cures; an early leaf pulls the post forward.
- Levelling the posts: both posts must be exactly parallel and at the same level. Lose the parallel and the leaf rubs a corner as it closes.
- Fitting the hinges: set bottom and top hinges on the same vertical axis. With adjustable hinges, the fine tuning comes after the leaf is hung, not now.
- Hanging the leaf: seat the leaf on the hinges, check the threshold gap and confirm it swings freely.
- Brace and support: on heavy leaves or windy lines, weld a diagonal brace to the posts. It is the most effective guard against the post leaning towards the gate.
- Lock, stop and final adjustment: align the lock keep, fit the open-position stop, then work the gate repeatedly to finish the hinge adjustment.
Maintenance and Service Life
The pedestrian gate is the busiest gate on site, opened and closed dozens of times a day, so maintenance centres on the hinges. Grease them twice a year to stop squeaking and pin wear. Light oil or graphite in the lock barrel delays the stiffness outdoor locks develop.
Paint integrity comes second. Powder coating lasts well, but where it wears at contact points around the lock and the hinge corners the steel is open to rust; touch up worn spots in the same RAL shade. Keep the ground clear so the threshold gap does not fill with gravel and soil, and repair cracks in the concrete at the post base early. Maintained this way, a box section pedestrian gate runs for many years.
Shipping and Delivery Across Türkiye
AnkaraTel ships from Ostim to every province in Türkiye by courier and by freight. A pedestrian gate travels more easily than the large gates; single units go by courier, while multiple gates are loaded with the rest of the fencing material.
Delivery is charged, deliveries within Ankara included; freight is not part of the product price. Our site survey within Ankara is free of charge: we come to site, measure the opening and settle the opening direction and the line height with you. Installation is outside our standard scope; on perimeter projects of approximately 1,000 metres and above our team works on site. On smaller jobs the gate arrives with installation instructions for your local fitter.
FAQ
Pedestrian Gate — common questions
What sizes do pedestrian gates come in?
We hold 100x200 cm and 120x200 cm single-leaf pedestrian gates in stock. Both are RAL 6005 moss green and electrostatic powder coated. We recommend 100 cm for staff access only, and 120 cm where materials and a wheelbarrow have to pass through.
Does the gate open to the right or to the left?
The opening direction is set with the order; it can be built to open right or left, inwards or outwards. When you decide, take into account the clear space on the side the leaf swings to and the escape route. On a free site survey within Ankara we can settle this together on site.
Can a pedestrian gate be fitted to a panel fence?
Yes, the pedestrian gate is designed to join panel fence lines and comes in the same RAL 6005 colour. If the fence is higher than the gate, the difference is made up with an extra panel above the gate or with razor wire. That way no weak point is left in the line.
Do you offer an installation service?
Installation is not one of our standard services. On perimeter projects of approximately 1,000 metres and above our team goes to site and takes on the installation. On small jobs such as a single gate, the product is delivered with installation instructions and can be fitted by a local tradesman.
Do I have to pay for shipping?
No, delivery is charged. The freight cost is not part of the product price, and that covers deliveries within Ankara as well. Whether it goes by courier or by freight is planned with you according to the quantity and the delivery address.
Does the gate come with a lock?
Our standard gates come with a slide bolt keep that takes a padlock. If you want a cylinder mortise lock or an electric lock keep, you need to state it before ordering. The choice of lock is one of the items that shows in the price.
How long should the post concrete cure?
Once the posts have been concreted, the leaf should not be hung until the concrete has cured sufficiently. A gate hung early pulls the post forward under its own weight and the closing goes out of true. That patience adds directly to the life of the gate.
Is a brace needed on every gate?
On light mesh-filled leaves it is usually not needed. On heavy sheet-clad leaves and on open ground exposed to wind, a diagonal brace on the post is recommended. A brace is the most effective measure against the post leaning over time.
Are prices VAT inclusive?
Yes, all our published prices include VAT. The price is set by the size, the wall thickness of the profile, the infill type, the lock and hinge hardware and the number of gates ordered. The delivery point is then calculated separately as a freight item.
